Steve Carr is a well-known freelance studio musician in Los Angeles.His work on saxophones, flutes, clarinets and synthesizers has enhanced to music of numerous movies and TV shows, such as Poseidon Adventure, Star Trek Voyager, The Scorpion King, Money Talks, FX2, American Dreams, Matlock and Dallas, to name but a few.

The jazz quartets and quintets he leads perform regularly at many Los Angeles venues, including Swazi’s, Charlie O’s, and the Jazz Bakery.

He has worked with many notable composers including Lalo Schifrin, Charles Fox, Benny Carter, Lenny Neihaus, John Parker, Buddy Collette, John Cacavas and David Rose. A personal highlight was playing tenor sax on the Benny Carter Band’s Japan tour with Dizzy Gillespie, Johnny Griffen, Marlena Shaw and Phil Woods. Most recently he was a featured soloist on the 2001 Grammy nominated “The Buddy Collette Big Band in Concert” album.

Steve is a co-owner of SR Technologies—a company which makes high quality, computer-manufactured saxophone mouthpieces. He personally designs many of SR’s highly successful products. 

Steve has a Master’s Degree in Music Composition and theory from the University of California at Riverside. He also studied composition with Roy Harris while pursuing a Ph.D. at UCLA. Has composed the scores for several motion pictures and “ghosted” as a composer and orchestrator on many well known films.

Steve is currently very active as a private instructor and clinician.

Steve uses Reed Boosters on alto and tenor saxophones.
